For Families?
Yes! We think your family should have a chance to explore together outside at Skyline! We want to welcome all definitions of family. One participant must be under 18 and at least one participant must be over 18 and any combination of up to 9 people will work for us. Note that the adults in each family are still responsible for the children they bring while they are guided by our staff.
What will we do?
Family Wilderness Club is a chance for families to connect with each other and the earth in all seasons. Let Rob be your guide as we journey together to a different destination each month. Our speed and focus will depend largely on the group in attendance but often with our littlest campers the journey is as much of the experience as the destination. The focus will not be on getting there as much as what we see along the way. Our trails are not ideal for strollers and some journeys will adventure off trail, especially as vegetation dies back and more places are hikable. Carriers are suggested for infants but toddlers and up should be encouraged to join us with their own powers.
Cost?
We feel that this type of opportunity is too good to be free. The registration fee of $25 per family is payable thru our registration system. To provide a quality experience, we are setting a 4 family minimum for each month. We know plans easily change but in order to make this work for all of us we need to 'lock in' 4 families by noon on the Thursday before. Watch for an email Thursday afternoon with more details for Saturday's outing. This is also when we would notify if we have to cancel for that month due to low commitment. If your family needs to cancel after that email goes out then your registration fee may not be transfered to another month but we will work with you and be as understanding as possible.
What to wear and bring?
Dress in layers depending on the weather to be comfortable for 2 hours outdoors. We can play in rain, mud and snow. Remember children (and adults for that matter) are 100% washable
Bring a full belly, the only food available is wild. (We know and appreciate the importance of healthy snacks for little bodies but in order to provide a safe space for everyone we need you to not have snacks out with other families. We encourage you to have a snack before you join us)
Bring water bottles
Bring infant carrier and small diaper bag if that applies
What not to bring?
Cell phones (Of course you can carry them, we just want you to be present…this is an opportunity for you to be available to your family. Remember, you are still in charge of those you bring)
Strollers (our trails are not designed for thin wheels)
Pets (we know many are just like part of your family, but there are also families that are not comfortable with new animals and we want to be able to welcome all)
Valuables, money or diamond earrings
We look forward to seeing your family enjoy this place!
Registration available with the button below. There are several steps to registration and for your first month, a place to let us know who to expect from your family. If that list changes the next month and you plan to bring a significantly different crew, please email Rob with the update so he can plan with that in mind.
