PROGRAM POSSIBILITIES

Looking for a day of outdoor recreation at Skyline?

Design a day of camp program activities for your group. We will work with you to create a program tailored to your needs.

Each activity can last between 30 minutes and 2 hours, depending on the size of your group and the ages, developmental levels and mobility of your participants. Once you decide which activities would be best for your group and have a few hopeful dates in mind, contact shana@campskyline.org to design your program.

When are these programs available?

  • September through May, some only in warmer months.

  • Groups need to plan and sign up at least 3-4 weeks in advance.

  • Monday through Thursday these programs could take place between 1pm and 5pm.

  • Certain Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays may be available between 9am and 5pm.

What is the cost?

  • Prices are based on the number of participants, the length of program, and the number of program leaders required for your group.

  • On average, it costs about $15 per participant for a 2 to 3 hour program with a minimum of 5 participants, and a maximum of 90.

Activities available:

Camouflage Hike (recommended ages 3-14)

Wild Edible Hike (recommended ages 7+) (Sept,Oct, Nov & May)
Hike through fields and trails in search of edible trees, plants, roots and flowers. This hike involves plant ID discussion, more talking than walking. and more attention span than other hikes. This activity is best as a 45-60 minute period, but can be done while walking from one activity to the next.

Farm Visit (all ages)
Visit Skyline’s goats and chickens. If you are looking for information about how to start your own little hobby farm, we are happy to share what we’ve learned on our journey thus far. The vegetable and herb gardens are also available for tasting, learning and laboring in spring and fall. This activity is best as a 45-60 minute period.

Low Ropes Course (ages 7+) (groups of 10-15 participants)
Support each other as you problem solve your way out of each challenge. Try out the Wild Woozy partner walk on wires or the Peanut Butter Pit on a rope swing. Navigate the Blind Maze or puzzle together logs to bridge your way across a “Swamp.” Accessiblity note: these activities require physical proximity, physical upper & lower body strength, and are located in the woods, up a hilly path. This activity is best as a 60-90 minute period.

Teambuilding Games (ages 7+) (groups of 10-30 participants) Grow together as a group as you solve puzzles, play silly games and get moving together. Games will vary according to age, ability and size of group, but include inclusive games like Elves, Wizards, & Trolls, Blind Fetch, Evolution, Steal My Chicken, the Game of Life, Entourage, Visible Continuum, People to People, and Hula Hoop Tag. This activity is best as a 30-45 minute period.

Boating (ages 3+) (Sept,Oct,April & May)
Explore the natural wonders of our little pond in a boat, canoes, paddle boat or Funyaks (this might get you a little wet.) Try to spot the beautiful birds, snapping turtles, painted turtles, frogs and fish while you are on the water. We provide boats and lifejackets of all sizes. All pond activities require a higher ratio of adults to children than other activities. This activity is best as a 60 minute period.

Catch and Release Fishing (ages 3+) (Sept,Oct,April & May)
We provide bamboo poles, fishing nets and hot dogs for bait, and life jackets. We require life jackets on the dock, but you can fish from any shore of the pond. Our bluegill and large-mouthed bass enjoy life in their small pond, we release them once they have been caught. You are welcome to provide your own gear.  All pond activities require a higher ratio of adults to children than other activities. This activity is best as a 60 minute period.

Pond Exploration (ages 3+) (Sept,Oct,April & May)
Skirt the edges of Skyline’s pond and look for minnows, frogs, turtles, crayfish and insects. Dip in with buckets and nets and try to figure out what creatures are living there. Step in, feel the clay, mud and water beneath your feet. Swimming is not permitted but shallow wading is welcome. All pond activities require a higher ratio of adults to children than other activities. This activity is best as a 30 minute period.

Shelter Building (ages 7+)
Using logs, sticks and ropes in the woods, build a shelter just big enough for your pod. Add some vines and bark to finish it off. If you’re brave we can make it “rain” while you shelter inside to see if it’s waterproof. This activity is best as a 60-90 minute period.

Archery (ages 5+) (Sept, Oct, April & May) (groups of 10-15 participants)
With our recurve bows, we will teach you the basics of archery or just provide the space and equipment for you to practice. Archery requires attention, focus and respect for boundaries. It’s a sport that children and adults can learn and gain confidence with every attempt. This activity is best as a 60 minute period.

Drumming at the Labyrinth (all ages) (Sept,Oct,April & May)
We have a circle of drums waiting for willing hands! No experience needed, drumming can be used to play, unite, and release tension. We can play drumming games, orchestrate a 3 part round on drums, or have a free-flowing drum circle. It’s up to you and your interests and experience. This activity is best as a 30 minute period.

Goat Hike (all ages)
Explore camp in the most exciting way, while hiking with a herd of goats. Watch them run, jump and graze. Learn about the trees and wild edible plants they choose while they munch. This activity is best as a 30-45 minute period.

Firebuilding (ages 5+)
Learn to build a campfire, roast marshmallows and sing campfire songs! This activity is best as a 60-75 minute period.

Picnic (no added cost) Bring your lunch and use one of our campfire pits or shelters to make your day a little longer and more enjoyable. Another option is to plan a lunch cooked by our Kitchen Staff or perhaps a Skyline prepared snack. Inquire for options and prices.
