Working Overnight camp one week, then Day camp the next?

At the day camp hub, just playing…

ROle flexibility

At Skyline, we give our counselors the chance to try out a different flow every week. One week you may spend in the rustic cabins with 8 year olds, leaving campfires as the sun sets, waking them bright and early to head up the hill for pancakes and sausage. Next week you may be early rising to ride the bus & cover as many acres in a day with our 10 & 11 year old neighbors before they head home for baseball games and family dinners. We aim to give staff a chance to try out a few weeks of both day and overnight camp.

8 weeks of camp & 1.5 weeks of training

It all depends on your interests, goals and energy…we work with you to determine the best fit once you complete staff training. You can work with multiple populations, from 5-12 year old local children and 7-15 year old children from further away, in addition to 18-70 year old adults with special needs who also stay overnight. Besides training, each week of camp/work starts on a Sunday and finishes on a Friday.

An example of what a 10 week summer counseling at camp could look like for you…

Staff Training 1 (7 days)

Day Camp 1: Forest Play (ages 5-12)

Camp Sassafras (overnight camp for adults with special needs)

Day Camp 3: Global Neighbors (ages 5-12)

Staff Training 2 (4 days) followed by July 4th Long weekend (3 days)

T1: (overnight camp for children ages 7-11)

T3 (overnight camp for children ages 7-11)

T6 (overnight camp for children ages 12-15)

Day Camp 7: Water (ages 5-12)

Day Camp 8: Farm Harvest (ages 5-12)

Thursday late nights at overnight camp usually involve loud music, dress ups, and stargazing.

Lots of dishes when you cook real food…

Kitchen skills are life skills

The first part of our job description is to “do what needs to be done.” A big part of camp is eating whole and nourishing foods, which takes a lot of hands especially when we grow some of our produce! A few tasks all of our staff get a turn doing are cooking, cleaning, and farming; we help the kitchen staff get things done and for that, we eat well!
